“Ok, I haven't mentioned it yet, but this place is nuts!” — Eddie Riggs

The beginning of the world, as seen in the first Artefact of Legend.

In the beginning, the land was first inhabited by the First Ones, who lived in utter darkness. They liked living in the dark because they were so repulsive, they couldn't bear to so much as look at themselves. With the advent of Ormagöden however, the world was brightly lit.

The First Ones could see each other at last, and were very displeased. They devised a plot to kill the Fire Beast, by first capturing the lovely Aetulia. The leader of the First Ones trapped her and forced her to lure Ormagoden to the ground. When he arrived, the First Ones attempted to douse his flames with mud. Rather than being extinguished, the Fire Beast exploded, destroying the First Ones and flooding the world with his blood, which became the oceans. His firey heart became the sun, his steel flesh studded the ground with ore.

In the aftermath of the destruction, new races arose. From the drowned remains of the First Ones and the remnants of Ormagoden's anger, the demons were born. From the land rose the titans, majestic beings who combined the strength and size of Ormagoden with the beauty and grace of Aetulia. The titans pitied the demons, who were often misshapen and self-loathing as the First Ones had been, and kept them as pets while the titans themselves began to study the world and make use of the remnants of Ormagoden. They learned to use his flesh and fire, and to reproduce the power of his scream. They created a great civilization, and became beings of spiritual perfection. Eventually, they ascended to a greater state of being and became the Metal Gods, but they left behind the remnants and monuments of their civilization and the secrets they'd encoded into the natural world, so those who came after would be able to recreate their works and join the titans.

The demons felt abandoned by their former masters, and searched the world over for a trace of them, so caught up the search they missed the possibilities of their own ascension around them. The titans has removed all remains of themselves, save for a single sliver of a toenail, and the demons found it. Wishing to summon their beloved masters back, they did a great ritual with the nail as the focus, but their working was amiss: The demons didn't bring the titans back, but instead a new race was created--the titans, but in miniature, often smaller than the demons themselves; humanity. The demons hated the race of man on sight as its reminder for their failure, and enslaved them.
